Part of a Series: Book 1 of the Illuminae Files
Plot: This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Reading Period: December 04, 2015 - January 03, 2016

Review

Okay... the fact that it took me one month to read the book you would think that I didn't like it, but that couldn't be father than the truth. Unfortunately for different circumstances I had to interrupt reading for different periods. First I had the ebook version, but it's better to read this book in paperback. So I ordered the book on Amazon and before I could continue reading I had to wait for the parcel to arrive. Then during the last week of December I did a read-a-thon, so I had to interrupt again.

But... leaving all that behind.

Illuminae is FANTASTIC!!!

It is so original. Okay, the story could seem like a classic romantic story, but the whole book is a series of documents, audio transcripts, emails and so on. It's practically a redacted dossier investigating the events that led to the people of a planet to leave their homes and embark on a space journey trying to survive a deadly virus while escaping from a spaceship that what's to kill them.

The story itself reminded me a bit of Battlestar Galactica (a tv-show that I adore), you know, the Galactica and the other ships running away from the cylons.

The two main characters were also cool. I loved Kady more than Erza.
A hacker girl? What's not to love? She's the best!

Erza could be a bit annoying in some parts, but his emails were funny and he has a great sense of loyalty.

It's the fact that this book is so unique that I fell in love with it!

I will definitely pre-order the paperback copy this time, so in October I will have the second book in my hands as soon as it comes out.

If you're thinking about reading this book, which you should, go for the paperback version. once you have it in your hands you will understand why. I read that the audio book version is also great.

I guess the rating is not a surprise.
