Despite her growing feelings for her saviour, Commander Hugo Casimir, he remains a paradox – not only is he a heartless killer, he is owned by the cruel immortal fae queen; a queen who will murder her own people for magic.
As Diamond’s circumstances become ever more perilous she is drawn deeper into Hugo’s world and discovers the lengths to which he will go to save what he holds dear. Will Hugo become her friend, her protector, or – an enemy not worthy of her trust?

It is the beginning of an epic journey, one that will test Diamond’s resolve and determination to battle an evil that threatens not only her world but that of Eternity, the land of The Goddess and The Guardians.

Review

"I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED A COPY FROM THE "RACHEL E. CARTER YA BOOK CLUB ON GOODREADS."

I really enjoyed this book. The synopsis of the book is really detailed and immediately captures your attention.

The fact that it took me a long time to read ABOVAM is only because I've been really busy with work nothing to do with the writing. If I had read it in a not so busy period I would have enjoyed it more, because the writing is very fluid.

The plot is pretty complex, maybe there were a bit too many elements to follow but at the end they all came together beautifully and I can wait for the next book to see how they all work out.

The world building was really detailed. From its history to its rulers, from the description of the landscape to the society. The characters seemed so real. Diamond is a young half human half fae, who has to deal with the racism in her society, the mystery of her past, the discovery that she has magic powers and her feelings for Hugo. Sometimes she seemed too weak and it annoyed a bit, but I think in the second book she will become stronger.

Hugo is a Queen's guard. He is a really complex character. Sometimes you want to punch him, sometimes you pity him. I love when a character gives so many mixed emotions.

Some plot twist and the love for this new world make this book a really nice read. I strongly recommend it.
